Places: Vulcan eruption in Fimmvörðuháls - taken by Aníta in 5th grade

We are very concentrated on the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull these last days and few weeks ago we had an other eruption in Fimmvörðuháls. One of our pupils went to Fimmvörðuháls with her nice and took some fantastic pictures and this is one of them.

Hello to everybody from this little corner located in the south east, nearby to the Mediterranean Sea.

Nice to share with you this fantastic experience.

Here you are our final pictures. They're all from our little village, its culture and customs.

Category- Nature

Pines branches come out of the balconies. We celebrate it on Sunday Easter. Young people who are eighteen years old decorate the houses of the village by using pines branches in order to get some money from their neighbourhood to enjoy with their friends.

Run boys run!

In July we celebrate our village Festival, people like running in front of the cows. In spite of, some cow runs faster than the boys.

Playing with torches of fire in the village centre.

The night before Xmas Day. The children play in the centre of the village by rotating the torches, we called them "aixames". And after it, children ask for the Xmas presents before to go to bed.

First and second level children from Primary are singing a Valencià folk song about "Rodolf el ren" at Xmas School Festival.

Malta: Our finalist pictures!

Category- Nature. A beautiful caper flower. A plant that grows in abundance in the Maltese countryside.

Category- Places. The Azure Window. A spectacular natural 'window' which attracts a lot of tourists. It can be found on the tranquil and small island of Gozo, second largest island in the Maltese archipelago.

Category- Sports. A boy from our class during a gymnastics lesson at school.

Category- People. This picture shows people in front of a local Parish church during the traditional village feast. The statue of the patron saint is being led out of the church to lead a procession round the village streets accompanied by the band and lots of cheering and festivities from the people.

Hello all of you
There are about 300 students in Flataskoli at the age of 6 to 12. We told the students about this project in late December and now we are getting some pictures to put on the web. All of the students in the school are allowed to take part and we think this is a wonderful and a very interesting project.
Last week our 1st grade students took the camera with them when they went out with their teacher to play in the sun and we only have the sun in the sky for about 4 hours at this time of year. We put the link to this blog on our website and we sent the parents an email to call their attention to the project so they could guide their children while they were taking pictures. As you can see on the picture there is no snow in Iceland and we are having plus degrees on Celcius.

Hello from The Netherlands

Hello everybody,

We are a small school with 32 students. We speak two languages, Dutch and Fries.
We participate in this project with group 6, 7 and 8 (class 4, 5 and 6). We are 10 students in the age of 9 till 12 years.
Our school is situated in Achlum, Achlum is a small village in the north of the Netherlands.
In the beginning of the winter we had a lot of snow, but now it’s slowly melting. We have skated a lot this winter.
Everybody is looking forward to the project. We’ve already made a lot of photo’s.

Hello, everybody.

We are 5a class from ZS Husova school. Our school is in the centre of quite a big city (about 350 thousands inhabitants), so it is not usual to have so much snow around our school! City transport almost collapsed last week, but we are enjoying winter pleasures just behind our school, in a park below Spilberk castle.

Hello Europe, from Scotland! We should be back at school after the Christmas holidays, but schools in our region have all been closed this week. Here in Scotland, we are "enjoying" our worst spell of winter weather for many years, with snow having been falling for more than 3 weeks now. This is highly unusual for us!

The photo above was taken today, late this afternoon. Meanwhile the picture below shows a snowy scene close to our school during the Christmas holidays.

A cold and snowy "HEJ" to you all, comes from Grimsås, in the south part of Sweden. We are still on Christmas holiday, and will be for some more days. Teachers start working om Friday, pupils on Monday, the 11 of January. The pupils who are going to take part of the competition are 11-13 years old. We are going to start preparing for interesting photos as soon as possible. I suppose we can use old photos too, because I think most of us will show the beautiful Swedish summer. The aim of the project will be for your children to use digital cameras (or mobile telephones with cameras) to take photos in a range of categories. (Nature, people, places, sport) Oleflemming has created folders in the eTwinning Twinspace for all photos from each class to be uploaded to, and each country will need to decide on their favourite picture in each category, (from their own class) which they will THEN nominate and upload to the project blog, here. Once each class has their own preferred picture in each category uploaded to the blog, we will all (like in Schoolovision) spend a week or so looking at all the work, and deciding on our favourites.

We plan to use FlashMeeting webcam conferencing again to cast our votes for each favourite photo, and then we will name the winners overall in each category. If you are not able to use webcam conferencing, don't worry, you can send votes by email to me.

Timings:You have lots of time to get organised....
Each class needs to allow the children lots of time to think about the pictures they'd like to take. Pictures need to be uploaded to the eTwinning Twinspace by 14th April 2010. Then, the favourite photo in each category from your class needs to be uploaded to the blog by 21st April 2010. If all goes to plan, we will then spend a week viewing all the photos, and we'll meet to cast our votes around the 28th April 2010.

What will the children learn?By using cameras or phones, the children will gain an understanding of digital photography. They will learn how to compose good pictures- and to look carefully for opportunities to photograph. They can do this either in school, or at home in their free time- but you should make it clear that it is expected that the children themselves should take the photos- NOT their parents!!Also, children will have another great opportunity to learn about different cultures through the pictures themselves.
